Before Joe & I got married we took a course in the Creighton Model FertilityCare System. If you want to learn more about it you can look here but, in short, it’s a crash course in women’s reproductive health. We learned how to understand my fertile signs so we could naturally plan our family but we decided to just be open and see what happened. Since we were tracking my signs and symptoms, we knew there was a HUGE possibility we were pregnant before I even missed my period. The only abnormal symptom I really had before then was sore boobs. That was my first clue because my girls are almost never sore.
Aunt Flo was supposed to visit on a Friday that month so I took an early response test on the Sunday before and it came out negative. I was a little disappointed and then proceeded to convince myself that the reason my girls were so sore was because I had a double breast infection (because that makes perfect sense…not). Then the day I was supposed to get my period finally came (Friday, June 4th) without a single PMS symptom. We had a friend over but he had fallen asleep during the movie we were watching so I asked Joe to come to the bathroom with me while I took another First Response early response pregnancy test. We were sitting on the bathroom floor when I saw a faint line start to appear in the little window. I kept asking “do you see that?” but he was just staring at it until breaking his silence by asking “well yeah but is it supposed to be that faint?!”.
We both started bawling and hugging each other then grabbed two more tests to verify. And yes, I took them at the same time. #peegoals
They both came out positive but we went to the store the next day to get a Clearblue digital test because he wanted to see the word pregnant instead of faint pink lines. The tests from that package came out positive too. 🙂
We told our parents that Sunday and have been slowly sharing the news ever since! In regards to complications and things that could potentially happen, I have been surprisingly calm. For someone who normally likes to have a plan and know the outcome, I recognize that the majority of what happens is out of my hands. I’m doing my best on my end and praying for our baby. Whatever happens I know I have the support of a loving community. My doctor quickly caboshed any remaining anxieties I had and Joe says I’m the calmest I’ve been in a very long time.
I’d love it if you would share how you found out you were pregnant in the comments below! It’s so fun hearing everyone’s stories 🙂
*This post was not sponsored. I picked First Response because of brand recognition. In the future, Joe and I liked the Clearblue digital test better and will use that again. If you decide to purchase a pregnancy test through either of the Amazon links above, I will make a small commission.

WOW I am currently standing at the Starbucks line at the airport & cracking up! Your writing is hilarious, Rene! Love reading this & am incredibly happy for you both!
Thanks, Cecilia! That’s such a compliment especially coming from a writer like yourself 🙂 Enjoy the Starbucks!
